“Unhomely Disruption” is a photographic series that captures construction sites in neighborhoods around Denton, TX. This series emphasizes the ever-changing nature of this city, focusing on how its shifting domestic landscape impacts the environment and current residents. These images highlight the surreal absurdity of these construction sites resulting from their proximity to the places we call home. What were once familiar, safe, and comforting spaces are now invaded, deconstructed, and unsafe. As Denton continues to grow and transform, residents must live with the consequences of construction, as these strange environments eventually become their new familiar. In this series, I document the progression of Denton’s changing urban landscape to highlight the inevitability of urban development and the powerlessness residents feel toward this growth. These images seek to provoke emotional discomfort within the viewer as they realize the spaces they reside in will never be the same as they once were.
