Film > How Long Have I Been Gone?

This series explores the themes of the loss of childhood and the deterioration of memories and objects over time. I
wanted to convey the melancholic nostalgia of looking at the past and discovering that childhood memories and items are not as they once were. I photographed the backyard of my parents house, focusing on the weeds that have grown since I've been there and the deteriorating fort my father built my brother when we were kids.

I was inspired to create this series after I visited my parent's house recently. I noticed how overgrown our backyard has become due to the lack of maintenance from my father, who normally pulls the weeds in his free time. In this series, I wanted to show that change is inevitable, but it isn't necessarily bad. Though things aren't the same anymore, sometimes this change can leave room for potential new growth.

I wanted my photographs to convey a sense of hope that maybe change can be for the better and that loss is something that we all experience.
