For All I Am
This project, titled “For All I Am,” is all about vulnerability. I was inspired to do this project after seeing a quote on an artwork on Instagram by the artist @Sunlightafterdark that says, “It feels good to be known and seen and still be loved for all you are.” This is a heartwarming sentiment, but I intrusively thought about the possibility of the opposite. What if after I am seen and known, I am abandoned for what is found out about me? This project stems from the notion of, “Can I really be loved for all that I am?”
This project is an art book made with various types of fabrics, including Citra Solv image transfers on cotton. This book is about how our relationships with others can reveal our inner selves, our faults, and the unhealed things we need to work through. It stems from the fears and anxieties of what would happen if these unideal aspects were exposed. Will that person leave after they see who I truly am? Or will they stay regardless of what they see? Can I really still be loved despite all my faults?
This project explores the depths of my inner self. As you move throughout the book, the more vulnerable aspects of myself are revealed. It spans self-worth issues, insecurities, and family dynamics. As the fabric becomes darker, so do the concepts, to show that I prefer them to stay hidden.
